trip to sarawak part 2

this post is SO overdue
so i shall compensate by putting up more pictures *grin*
i went back to sarawak in july and my travelling companion was my cousin amy. she studies fashion design and she was going to be putting on two fashion shows in kuching.the night before our flight, my mom dropped me off at my cousin's condo and when i went up to her room guess what i saw.

horrendous looking platforms, which she had to pack to bring back for the fashion show. those platforms look ridiculous, really. how could anyone walk in them for a long period of time anyway?
i was worried that my bag was too big but i was glad to see that her bag was BIGGER *grin* she had to bring all the outfits and the many pairs of shoes til she had a difficult time closing her suitcase.

since my suitcase was not as full as hers was, it became victim to the remaining stuff which she could no longer fit into hers. and after that I had difficulty zipping it up -_-'

the next morning we got up pretty early and we drove to KL sentral to get our stuff checked in. it was a better option than actually taking a taxi all the way to the airport since it was such a huge rip off and plus we had so much baggage..it was so weird..we drove to kl sentral, then we got our stuff checked in and therafter we drove back to the condo to get our remaining stuff and called for a taxi to send us to kl sentral once again. it was faster to take the express train to the airport. but that didnt stop the taxi driver from trying to persuade us to get him to send us there. *ugh* firstly, he was gross, and secondly his car stank really badly, how do you think we are going to endure that for the whole journey if he did drive us there? thanks, but no thanks.

i loved the express train. it was my first time in the train and it runs really smoothly and you have comfy seats which you can just fall asleep til u reach your destination. i wish the LRT was like that too.

but the view was pretty boring though.. all the more the reason to sleep

the festival was during the weekend and we got news that those who arent staying in the hotel near the cultural village (where it was held) were not allowed to drive in to park. so transportation to the festival was only made possible through shuttle buses which had terminals at certain hotels in kuching. however.. we had a special car sticker which allowed us to drive right into the main car park.. we parked in the VIP area *smug grin* and we didnt have to walk so far unlike all the other normal people..aww.. :D

we only went for the saturday and sunday shows, which was a good thing actually, cuz the friday show is known to be a little bit quiet..it was damn hot though.. so the next day my cousin and i decided to wear less clothes cooler attire :D

we are not as shameless as you think we are :D the festival features performers from all over the world and judging from the response to the performances the crowd favourites were Peatbog Faeries, Genticorum and Calle Sur

Peatbog Faeries (from Scotland)

Calle Sur from Latin America

Genticorum are a trio from Canada and they have really really nice songs. mostly they sing folk songs but its so warm and endearing, some funny and cheeky that eventhough you may not know what is it they are singing about, you just kinda..know.. :D

there were LOTS of people. LOTS.

Amy and i decided to lie on the grass the next day and watch the performance on the huge screen that was set up nearby. it was a better experience cuz there were no one blocking us, no one walking all over our mats, no one puffing smoke here and there. best of all, when the music got a bit boring we could just..take pictures of ourselves....

.....or talk to each other without having to yell at the top of our voices. weird huh? i dont think so, i enjoyed the second night way much more than i did on the first night .

when you are in sarawak, you have got to try the local delicacy, it is rather different from what you can find in KL. amy's friend brought us to this place to have sarawak laksa but other than the laksa the one thing that caught my attention was the so-called decorations..it looks very wrong, if you ask me, it looks like it belongs in one of those haunted houses...
anyway, back to the laksa..all those sarawak laksa that you can find here in kl? RIP OFF's.
you want to taste some serious laksa? go to sarawak. i am not an expert on what is in a laksa, but its really different from the usual assam laksa and the curry laksa. its not spicy, its got more of a savoury taste. and its not sour, unless you add in 3 limes like how amy did..

too many pictures, so little time..will write about the fashion show soon, promise!
